Potatoes and a Bucket

As I actively look for ways to reduce my consumption, I'm always met with new opportunities! Today I decided to get a bucket in order to reuse shower water by plugging the drain and pouring the newly filled bathwater into my toilet. I also found a great deal on potatoes that I will now turn and donate to our local homeless shelter.

We often are not aware of the small things we can do that wind up having big effects. We all hear about things like water conservation, food health, and peak oil. How many of us can even begin to see how much we consume? How many of us care to?

I am with you on this journey and started on this path long before you! When I was 17, I worked for a pharmacy. At the time, all drugs, pills and liquids, came in glass containers. I placed a big box in the back and got the pharmacists to agree to place all glass in the box instead of the trash. When the box filled, I dragged it home and stored it in the driveway, bless my parents and their patience. When I had a car full, I drove it to the Ball Corp. to recycle. Another grand contribution was that I used only cloth diapers on my children. I know I made a difference by making this effort--my granddaughter is being raised in only cloth diapers, too!! There are more recycling stories, but I won't bore you with all. Just know that each contribution has a beneficial effect even if it can't be seen immediately.
